Step inside my living and take the tour!
Decorating a room is a never ending project I really enjoy. I’m always moving things around and doing slight adjustments here and there. Recently I took on the task of hiding the the window unit air conditioner in this space. Can you find it now?
It’s neatly tucked behind the black and white painted wooden piece on the shelf. Adding a shelf behind the couch presented some additional challenges that I didn’t think about before diving in. Luckily the challenges ended up making me swap out the hanging arc lamp with our bedroom lamp. I was so thrilled with these changes that I thought it was finally time for a living room tour!
The shelf behind the couch is an IKEA Billy bookcase. I painted the edges black to tie it in with the decor. I picked up a plain wood piece from Michael’s and painted a tribal black and white design on it. I wanted to keep the rest of the shelf simple and neutral so I just added a few plants, flipped around some books, and added a couple baskets.
This is the view from the couch. I created this rental friendly accent wall using craft tape. It won’t leave marks on the wall and peels off easily when it’s time to move.
I purchased this steer skull from Amazon and painted it black, then I added a few decorative conchos.
Here is a close up of the shelf. I love the piece of art I painted that covers the AC unit. The giant air plant in the basket is a fake from World Market. Normally I can’t stand fake plants but an air plant of this size would have been so expensive and it looks very realistic! Not to mention the fact, that I kill air plants so I really can’t have them.
The leather couch is comfortable and timeless. It’s definitely a life time piece of furniture. The bleached jute rug under the cowhide is a newer addition that really brightens up the space and makes the room look larger. Mango often naps on the black and white floor pillow. It was an attractive alternative to a dog bed.
This is the front door. We have a very small entryway (and home) but keys are stored in the brown box and sunglasses and kept on the tray.

Good work with a small space. Looks great, especially that wall with the renter friendly craft tape. I also live in a small space. After the house was sold I needed to find somewhere to live and I thought this would be my transition house until I bought or found a more permanent residence. Most of the belongings of my 3 story house are in one large room including all my decor stuff. Three and a half years later, I’m still here. I have great landlords and lucky to find a place in the country’s worst rental, but in the past two months I’ve been looking around and thinking about doing some decorating. I tend to be a procrastinator… I did buy two dreamcatchers with horse scenes on them in Oregon last month and put them up in my bedroom. One is small and hangs over the bed. The other is pretty big and is on the wall. Like I said, still in the thinking stages but what I really need to think up is a smaller sectional for the living room.

Thank you Cheryl! Small spaces definitely have their pros and cons. There is less room for stuff but they are easier to clean! I think it sounds like you are ready for some decorating : ) Fall and winter makes it a perfect time too!
