An adorable Silkie update!
Three months ago we added two new Silkie chicks to our flock. I introduced them on Instagram, but I realized I never shared them here. We are calling them Ann (left) and Lindsay (right) to keep up with the Arrested Development name theme. The Lucilles didn’t like their new sisters at first. We had to introduce them slowly and to this day, Ann is low in the pecking order, still getting bossed around. Luckily Mango is nice to her new sisters. I wanted to take some fall photos to document their growth up to this point.
Both of the girls are getting more friendly and trusting. I try to hold them every day and hand feed them fruit and vegetable scraps. Right now they stick together and the Lucilles do too, but they all sleep together in the same nesting box. Silkies generally don’t perch or roost like other chickens. Instead, they cuddle together at night. It’s one of the cutest things they do. And as long as food isn’t involved, Ann gets left alone.
Mango fits in well with the Silkie squad and would never hurt them. Since she already was accustomed to the Lucilles, she wasn’t jealous when they moved in the house for a little bit. And as long as they are eating fruits and veggies, Mango says they can have those scraps.
Lindsay strikes a pose on top of the pumpkin.
If you are planning on decorating for fall? I want to pick up some more pumpkins and do a little carving with friends in the upcoming weeks.
