The cowboy boot world is evolving. It might seem like it’s a man’s world, but who understands what a woman wants better than a woman? It has been wonderful to see so many ladies involved in the boot world. I started Horses & Heels over ten years ago. I have become friends with a lot of the sales and marketing representatives from various popular boot companies. But one of my favorite friendships is with Jaylin Ramer, the owner and creator of Planet Cowboy.
Jaylin and I “met” online many years ago after connecting over my blog and a passion for cowboy boots of course. At the time I was living in Ohio and Jaylin was running her boutique in New York City, Space Cowboy Boots. We collaborated over the years creating content and swapping stories about boots. In 2013 I found myself moving to Brooklyn for my husband’s music career. New York City was a bit overwhelming for me as a country girl, but I embraced the energy and was thrilled to know I already had a friend in Manhattan. I visited Jaylin’s store and marveled over her western offerings and boots. At the time Jaylin’s shop carried a variety of quality boot brands, but none of her own.
Jaylin spent her days helping customers find their dream boots while she dreamed of something more – her own boot line. She wanted to create a line of cowboy boots that felt happy and embraced playful 60′-70’s retro vibes. Her idea was to build a boot that was future vintage, meaning buy it new now and in many years, they’ll be your favorite pair of vintage boots. Planet Cowboy customers and admirers love that they can find a bright pair of boots and make any outfit pop.
Fast forward to 2020 when life as we knew it came to a screeching halt from the pandemic. At one point New York was the epicenter of the virus in the United States. Jaylin had always considered the thought of bringing Planet Cowboy to Nashville. The area is known for its country loving, boot wearing clientele. Jaylin stopped in Music City on her way back to NYC after sheltering-in-place in Florida. She happened to be in the right place when a vacant storefront in 12South (Nashville’s fashion district) was being shown. The idea of a fresh start amid the shutdowns and stressful COVID situation in New York was refreshing. Jaylin uprooted her NYC business and brought it to Nashville. This change also allowed Jaylin the chance to rebrand. She changed her store name from Space Cowboy Boots to Planet Cowboy, to represent her own line. While Jaylin does still offer other boot brands for sale in the storefront and online, her focus has been able to shift her passion to her growing the Planet Cowboy brand. Jaylin’s big changes pushed her on a new path.
Planet Cowboy’s signature psychedelic collection offers bold and vibrantly colored boots that are built to last. Jaylin spends endless hours chatting with the factories about boot production. Jaylin believes that the leather quality and process behind making the boot should be top of the line. Space Cowboy was founded in 2011 and Jaylin has grown and learned along the way. Like all successful business owners, she’s learned to always keep going and learned how to go with the flow.
If you’re looking for groovy boots, Planet Cowboy is your destination.
