Enjoy a delicious prickly pear margarita with smoky mezcal.
I’m so excited to share this margarita recipe on the blog. A few months ago our friends visited from Florida. It was a real treat to have them stay with us because they know cocktails and food. They happen to own an awesome restaurant called Nice Guys Pizza in Cape Coral. I’m proud to say this delicious recipe was handcrafted by the cocktail masters.
We have a prickly pear cactus in our backyard so this drink was made using freshly juiced prickly pear. If you don’t have the ability to harvest your own juice, try looking at local grocery stores or Mexican specialty stores for the juice. You can also order fresh cactus pears on Amazon, please note this is a seasonal item!
I was doing a little research to learn more about prickly pear and I found out that there are about 18 different species of prickly pear, possibly more. My cactus had a brighter orange color on the inside and making this vibrant orange hue.
The margarita has mezcal, tequila, prickly pear, lime, and an agave simple syrup. It’s delicious with a nice salted rim. I love the smoky flavor that the mezcal brings to the margarita.
- .5 ounces agave
- .5 ounces hot water
- 1 ounce prickly pear juice
- .75 ounces strained lime juice
- .75 ounces tequila
- .75 ounces mezcal
- Mix agave and hot water to make an agave simple syrup.
- Add prickly pear, lime juice, tequila, mezcal, and agave simple syrup to a shaker with ice. Mix well, and pour into a glass with a salted rim.
Cheers! I hope you enjoy this delicious margarita! Thank you Greg and Jovana for the recipe!
