Ladies & Gentlemen the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, May 5th & in honor of it I decided to share some fun party foods & ideas incase you are entertaining. Plus you just have to meet the contenders. Check out all of the horses running here. Who are you betting on? Is anyone going to be attending?
Even if you are not big into Throughbred racing, it is a reason for a party right? While I’m not going to be throwing a Derby party, I picked out a few must serve foods, & displays ideas to make you feel like your at the derby.

To sum it all up, you must throw on your biggest hat this weekend & have a few mint juleps or cupcakes. Those are my orders.

I Love the Derby, Don’t think I’ll make it this year, but… maybe if im lucky I will. If not I’ll head to town with my Derby Hat (feathers & flowers) and have a mint julep and place my bet. Either way it will be a fun day!

I agree Donna!

The Kentucky Derby is not a reason to celebrate anything. It’s a celebration of practices that put profit in front of the animal in a way that most other horse sports do not.

Amy – I have a hard time believing this to be true. I don’t know your experiences in the horse world but there are plenty of other equestrian disciplines that profit from events & are very big. The Derby might be one that stands out in your mind because it is televised & there is such a large fuss about it (even for non-horse people) but there are lots of other futurities & such that are HUGE money makers for horses besides racing.

Great post! I just love the Mint Julep Cupcake idea … I think I’ll try that one. Honestly, I would have never ever thought of Mint julep Cupcakes … such a creative idea. The recipe looks pretty simple.
I have a few picks that I blogged about last night … Union Rags and Dullahan but I just found out this morning that Calvin Borel is riding Take Charge Indy so I’m torn.
I wish I could go. Going to the Derby has been on my bucket list for a long time. Check out my post Derby Time … at http://beachwalkermari.blogspot.com/
Fun!!!

The Kentucky Derby is legendary, definitely deserves celebrating. Over in the UK we also love to push the boat out on our big race days.
