Turn the $15 Brunsta pendant from IKEA into a hanging planter!
What do you do when you can’t find the perfect hanging planter for your space? You make your own of course. I made this chic and modern planter for under $20 using a pendant light from IKEA. It’s an IKEA hack that anyone can do! This cute little cactus now hangs in my office and gets plenty of California sunshine. Read on for the easy step-by-step instructions.
First, get the Brunsta pendant lamp shade from IKEA. It’s a cool modern and industrial piece, props to IKEA!
Then find a small plant and pot. I picked up these cute cacti from the Home Depot and a small marble pot from Urban Outfitters. My pot is basically 3″ x 3″ to give you an idea on the size. You can definitely go with a larger plant, but I like the way mine turned out.
You will also need rope or twine of your choice to hang the pendant light. I braided three stands of jute twine together for a rustic look.
Painting your planter is optional. The black metal is pretty, but I wanted a touch of pink. I used Rust-Oleum champagne pink spray paint.
The pink turned out perfect. Then I tied my rope to the planter, inserted my potted cactus, and hung up my new planter.
This is such a simple DIY project, anyone can do it! It added a pop of green to the empty corner of my office. Ps. if you are interested in seeing my whole office, you can take the tour right here.
This planter would also look great with a string of pearls plant hanging from it as well. I opted for a cactus because I know I can take care of it and not kill it. I hope you give this DIY a try!
