Thank you Middle Sister for sponsoring this post. Bring your favorite Middle Sister wine along to all of your celebrations this year!
Life gets busy and sometimes we all need to slow down, relax, and celebrate the simple things in life. For me nothing beats good wine, food, and company paired with a little bit of pampering. Mango and I recently hosted a “YOU Day” for some of my favorite ladies out in the backyard.
There was Middle Sister wine of course, cheese, some delicious appetizers, and a mini spa station with face masks and nail polish. Middle Sister wines were created 10 years ago by the founding women of the Wine Sisterhood. Founder Terry Wheatley was fascinated by her best friend’s middle daughter, Erin. From childhood, she was just more outrageous, more free-spirited and simply larger than life. Terry created Middle Sister wines for spirited middle sisters everywhere, finally giving them the attention they deserve.
We got to try all six varieties, plus mix and match food and wine pairings. It was so much fun!
I made salmon dip, baked ricotta, pimento cheese dip, fresh bruschetta, plus I had plenty of bread, crackers, and cheese.
This is the the amazing pimento cheese dip! I found the recipe online at Food & Wine. It was so creamy and delicious, I added extra roasted red peppers and everyone loved the bold flavor.
Pimento Cheese Dip (recipe adapted from Food & Wine)
- 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 2 ounces mayo
- 2 cups roasted red peppers
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded
- 8 ounces Monterey Jack, shredded
Add cream cheese, mayo, red peppers, garlic, and salt to a food processor and puree. Add in cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese and puree. Scoop the mixture into serving bowls and chill for at least two hours before serving.
I adore the snarky Middle Sister wine labels on the bottle. But it’s not all looks, Nancy Walker is the award-winning winemaker and “wonder woman” behind the scenes, putting her final touch on every bottle. Middle Sister wines are also proud to support wonderful causes women care about, including Sonoma Valley Wine Business Executive MBA Scholarship for women in the wine industry, Angels Share and Heart of the Vine.
This baked ricotta with orange zest, honey, and plenty of cracked black pepper was another hit.
Baked Honey Ricotta with Orange Zest (recipe adapted from PureWow)
- 2 cups whole-milk ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- Zest of 1 small orange
- ¼ cup honey
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a medium-size oven-safe baking dish with butter. Combine the ricotta with the egg and 2 tablespoons of the olive oil to combine. Add in orange zest and honey. Pour the ricotta mixture into the baking dish. Top with the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil and a generous amount of freshly ground black pepper. Bake until the ricotta is lightly golden on the surface for about 25 minutes. Let cool 5 minutes before serving.
