All you need are just a few supplies to make a set of custom tea towels.
Are you looking for an affordable and easy DIY? Try making a set of tea towels for yourself or a friend. These towels are my bohemian inspired pony towels for the kitchen. They are full of imperfections but that’s part of the stamping process. If you want perfect towels, I can refer you some options to buy 😊.
This DIY was inspired by the wooden horse stamp and a set of towels I received for Christmas from Adam’s parents. I loved the stamp so much that I wanted to use it for some sort of DIY project. I decided I would stamp some towels with fabric paint.
I headed to Hobby Lobby and picked up a set of plain tea towels. I had leftover Fabric Creations paint in my craft stash.
This is the pretty horse stamp before I used it! The process for making these towels is pretty simple. Pour the paint onto a paper plate. Practice stamping on paper or fabric before you begin. I started with paper and then I stamped some old shirts to do a test run.
The stamping process itself can be challenging. You need to apply hard and constant pressure and remove the stamp straight up after applying. It is hard to get a consistent stamp. I applied paint first and then I stamped a rag to remove excess paint before each time I stamped the towel. My marks are far from perfect but it’s part of the fun.
Make sure you let the paint dry for 24 hours after you are done and follow the instructions on the bottle to ensure your paint doesn’t come off.
Hang these over the stove and admire! If you like stamps, be sure to check out this fun organizational DIY I made by stamping plain boxes.
