If it sparkles and if it shines, there is a good chance I am a big fan. Today I have some fun photos of Rodeo Envy jewelry and a Q&A session with Darcy, the creator of this beautiful jewelry. Proudly made in Montana with real Swarovski crystals, you can’t help but fall in love. You may purchase jewelry directly from Rodeo Envy online, place a wholesale order or request a custom piece if you don’t see something you like.
Darcy sent me this stunning lavender, orange and turquoise Rodeo Envy necklace and leather cuff to photograph and get an up close and personal feel for the quality. And guess what? It passed the test with flying colors! Warning: I may have went overboard with photos but I had to capture this set’s sparkle and natural beauty.
Q. Creating your own jewelry started after you originally opened your store, Rodeo Envy. Was this something you had planned on doing? Tell us about its beginning and growth.
My mom actually had been telling me for a while that I should make my own jewelry. I had always been creative and had a knack for colors. I went down to the local bead store and they taught me how to make necklaces. The local leather store helped me with the leather work. I made a few pieces and then put it on hold for a bit. Then I had a friend ask me to make her a couple custom pieces. From there I kept experimenting with colors and different shapes of leather and it grew from there. I look at them as pieces of art. Each one is different is some way. They are handmade and lot of thought and care goes into each piece.
A few months ago, I started a wholesale program and have boutiques around the U.S. selling my necklaces and leather cuffs.
Q. What are your favorite colors or materials you like to work with the most?
For Spring/Summer, I absolutely love the Mint & Hot Pink color combo. I also love the yellow & hot pink and yellow & turquoise. My favorite materials are the Swarovski crystals. There is just no substitute. Yes, I could go with a less expensive crystal but the difference is huge. The sparkle these necklaces give is what sets them apart from other less expensive pieces.
Q. What is your favorite piece you have made so far and do you have a hard time parting with favorites?
My favorite piece is an AB (irridescent) crystal, Teal, & Turquoise on an Antique Copper square concho paired with a 3 concho leather cuff. It looks awesome with a cream or white blouse.
Q. When it comes to western brands and this industry, is there some in particular you really look up to or admire?
I love Roar shirts! I love the bold colors and unique color combinations they come up with. I also love Rock & Roll Cowgirl jeans. Their fit, for me, is the best.
Q. Running a business can be one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs, if you could go back five years and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Never be afraid to make mistakes. It’s how you learn and grow as a business and a person.
Q. And just for fun, what is your favorite brand of cowboy boots?
I love my Lucchese’s! They fit like a glove and were comfortable the first time I put them on. I didn’t have to break them in.
Thank you Darcy for taking the time to answer these questions and remember, if you would like to purchase jewelry from Rodeo Envy, please visit the online store or keep up with the latest news on Facebook!
