These Cranberry Apple Pinwheels are perfect for the holidays. An easy appetizer requires store bought puff pastry, a homemade cranberry apple filling and two ingredient icing. These tasty bites require minimal effort on your behalf!
When it comes to entertaining for the holidays, it’s a good idea to keep a box or two of puff pastry on hand. You never know when you are going to have to unexpected company drop by. You can whip up this easy appetizer in minutes. They are even better when they are still warm from the oven.
The filling for this dessert is quite simple – cranberries, apples, cinnamon and sugar. Powered sugar and milk are mixed together for a simple icing.
- Filling
- 2 cups whole cranberries
- 2 cups chopped apples of your choice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
- Icing
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 2 sheets of puff pastry (1 17.3 ounce package)
- Pre heat the oven to 325 and set out the puff pastry, allowing it to defrost.
- Combine cranberries, apples, sugar and cinnamon in a large sauce pan. Cook over a medium to low heat, stirring occasionally for about 15 minutes. Once the mixture is soft, set it aside.
- Spread the puff pastry over a floured counter and evenly spread the filling. Gently roll it up, sealing the ends with a touch of water.
- Cut the roll into slices and place it on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 15 – 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the puff pastry is baking, combine milk and powdered sugar to make the icing. Add more milk for thinner icing.
- Drizzle the icing over the puff pastry after they have cooled a bit.
